Join Jessica Staines, Director of the Koori Curriculum for a live webinar on "Embedding Aboriginal Perspectives".

“We know we should, but we don’t know how!” is a common statement made by many well- meaning educators in reference to Aboriginal programs. When embedding Aboriginal perspectives, educators can be overwhelmed and anxious as they're so worried about doing the wrong thing that it becomes debilitating.

This webinar has been specifically designed for early learning educators eager to incorporate Aboriginal perspectives into their daily curriculum.

This expert-led session, presented by the multi-award-winning Koori Curriculum, takes you on an enlightening journey supporting you to meaningfully embed Aboriginal perspectives in your program.

This session will include:

Intercultural ways of knowing, being and doing: Learn how to respectfully include Aboriginal perspectives in your curriculum.

Hands-on practical tools: Overcome the fear of "analysis paralysis" with actionable strategies and confidence-building techniques to handle and teach cultural content thoughtfully and effectively.

Holistic curriculum integration: Explore how to blend Aboriginal perspectives seamlessly into your daily program, avoiding tokenism by utilising respectful processes when programming and planning.

Culturally inclusive learning environments: Transform your educational spaces to reflect cultural respect and awareness, ensuring that both Indigenous and non-Indigenous children recognise and value our Countries rich cultural heritage.

Outcome 1.1: Children feel safe, secure and supported when they for example access resources that support cultural diversity, family structures and gender identities.

Outcome 1.1: Children feel safe, secure and supported when educators enable children to see their culture in the environment, e.g: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander art from the local region, cultural events that are significant to a child’s life.

Outcome 2.2: Children respond to diversity with respect. Educators support this learning when they for example ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources are genuine and appropriate

Outcome 3.2: Children become strong in their physical learning and mental wellbeing. Educators promote this learning when they for example draw on diverse family and community experiences and expertise to include familiar games and physical activities in play.

Outcome 3.3: Children are aware of and develop strategies to support their own mental and physical health and personal safety. Educators support this learning when they for example create culturally safe and appropriate learning experiences and spaces e.g. reflect children’s cultures in the setting.

“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the longest surviving Indigenous culture in the world and the custodians of this land. Their knowledge systems, traditions, ceremonies, lore and culture have survived for over 60, 000 years. Relationships and continual connections to Country and Community are at the heart of who they are and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – past and present – should be acknowledged and valued in children’s learning” EYLF pg 16

Join us to harness the tools and knowledge needed to create a nurturing, equitable, and culturally educated early learning environment. Each participant will leave with not only a robust theoretical framework but practical, everyday applications that celebrate and respect the deep-rooted history and knowledge of Australia’s First Nations peoples.
